One of our favorite towns on that list is Asheville, North Carolina.  Tucked away in the Smoky Mountains, Asheville is known for its eclectic, hippy vibe and has some amazing attractions such as the Biltmore Estate, the home of the Vanderbilt family, and a plethora of beer breweries. Vanderbilt’s 250-room French Renaissance chateau is a true marvel, the largest undertaking in residential architecture, and we highly recommend a tour if you make your way to Asheville, NC.  You can choose to stay in the hills for a more intimate escape or you can rent a cabin closer to the town where you are walking distance from the delicious restaurants and breweries.  Asheville, as is most of North Carolina, is known for its great southern soul food such as chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits.  Asheville is also a great place to find up and coming artists and musicians.  As you stroll down the Downtown Art District you will see that it is filled with galleries and museums, and in the nearby River Arts District, former factory buildings house artists’ studios.

If you are planning to head out for a fall cabin retreat, remember to pack comfy clothes, a good book, and we recommend a fun game like Cards Against Humanity or Apples To Apples (and of course a nice bottle of wine).  We promise it will be a vacation you will never forget, so go ahead – YOU deserve it!
